Manchester Metropolitan University has a proud heritage dating back to 1824. It is one of the largest universities in the UK, with over 34,000 students enrolled, and is home to a diverse international student population from more than 130 countries.

The University is ranked amongst the world’s top 200 universities under 50 years old (Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2020), which is a measure of its commitment to delivering and supporting quality research and teaching.

Manchester Metropolitan’s campus is located in the centre of Manchester, amongst world-renowned music, arts, shopping and sports venues and the second largest Chinatown in the UK. Manchester is considered Britain’s ‘best city to live in’ (Global Liveability Survey 2019 by the Economist Intelligence Unit) and one of the world's top 10 most exciting cities (Time Out City Life Index 2019).

The University is undergoing a £400m+ investment programme to enhance its teaching and research facilities, buildings and public spaces and 85% of Manchester Metropolitan’s research has a 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent' impact. Its School of Architecture is ranked 3rd in the UK for architecture courses and 11th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2021. It is home to a triple accredited Business School, placing it among an elite group of business schools worldwide.

Manchester Metropolitan provides its students with regular employability events including advice workshops, industry networking, guest speakers and careers fairs. Services for International Students

Manchester Metropolitan University's dedicated student services team offers international students career advice, counselling, learning support, and chaplaincy. The University offers free language support for international students in the form of lessons and individual consultations. At the beginning of the year there is a meet and greet service from Manchester International Airport to help new international students find their way to the University.

Accommodation

Manchester Met provide on-campus accommodation available to suit different budgets. All Manchester Met international students are guaranteed accommodation in student halls as long as:

  • you are in your first year of study
  • you apply before 6 August if your course starts in September
  • you apply before 29 November if your course begins in January

Manchester Met offer an excellent choice of accommodation, from en-suite rooms in shared flats to traditional bedrooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms, all of which are close to campus. All accommodation has local facilities, including shops, restaurants and cafes, and excellent transport links to help you explore the area.
